AN ALLEGED police informant was shot dead on Lim Ket Kai Drive in barangay 35 Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Modesto Ligtas Jr., chief of Barangay 35, identified the victim as Sabre Solimabao, a Maranao and resident of Barangay 31, whose body and head were riddled with bullets.

Ligtas said police recovered nine empty shells of still unidentified caliber pistol.

He said Solimabao and his wife were heading for home on foot from a mall when two suspects riding a motorcycle followed them and shot Solimabao and his wife.

Police investigation said both suspects wore helmets.

The gunman was the motorcycle’s passenger, Ligtas told reporters quoting witnesses’ testimonies.

The incident happened near Ligtas’ residence in barangay 35.

Ligtas said the victims were immediately rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) for treatment.

Solimabao was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.

However, His wife, who’s presently confined at the NMMC, is in serious condition after sustaining gunshot wounds in her body, Ligtas said.

Ligtas said Solimabao was the younger brother of former Barangay 31 councilor Sultan Solimabao.

Based on reports, Ligtas said, Solimabao was the target of the suspects.

Solimabao, according to Ligtas, was a known “alpha” or asset of the police who fed law enforcers information on the proliferation illegal drug activities in barangays 31 to 35, near the Cogon public market.

Ligtas said the killing could be drug-related.

Barangay 35, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-10), is a haven of illegal drugs deals where methamphetamine hydrochloride known as shabu is sold rampantly.

Ligtas said it was the first time that such incident had happened in his barangay.

“Under my leadership, this has been the first time I saw an ‘alpha’ person who was killed near my house and right beside the garbage fill. He must have angered someone whom he had reported to law enforcers,” he said.

Ligtas clarified he doesn’t not know what Solimabao did for a living, except that he was a police asset.

The police have yet to establish the motive of the killing and the identities of the suspects.
