Cops nab suspected motorcycle thief-A A +A

A SUSPECTED motorcycle thief in Cagayan de Oro City was arrested Thursday afternoon by joint operatives of the Carmen police station and the Crime Against Persons and Properties Division (CAPPD) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).
Senior Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas, CAPPD chief, said the arrest of Mohammad Solayman, 25, a native of Marawi City, and his live-in partner Angel Abello, happened when the two showed resistance after the authorities invited them for questioning.
The two were about to leave Barangay Carmen on board a Honda XR 200 motorcycle when the police approached them.
Pontillas said instead of cooperating with the authorities, they refused to do so, prompting the police to enforce proper protocol including a body search for Solayman.
They then discovered a gun and a sachet of what police believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or commonly known as shabu.
He said Solayman was put under police surveillance for three weeks, following the revelation of the two suspects arrested by CAPPD in Compostella Valley, that Solayman is the alleged mastermind of motorcycle thievery, drug trafficking and murders of some motorcycle owners he intended to rob in Cagayan de Oro the past weeks.
Pontillas said some of the victims who survived the alleged murder attempt by Solayman positively identified the latter as behind their attacks, including an incident in at the rotunda in Barangay Macasandig where the victim fortunately eluded the shooting when a taxi arrived, Pontillas said.
The taxi driver confirmed it was Solayman who attacked them and also confirmed the motorcycle the suspects had used in the incident.
During the incident, the taxi unit was shot thrice and damaged some parts of the vehicle, he added.
Another victim, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, Pontillas said, also identified Solayman as behind an attack of the former, who was said to have trembled in fear as he pointed to the detained suspect.
Pontillas even said that one of Solayman’s acquaintances, a criminology student at the Cagayan de Oro College in Carmen, also identified the suspect as behind an attack which killed a certain Richard Butalid in the same barangay weeks ago.
Solayman, who is temporarily detained at the Maharlika detention facility in Carmen, refused to face the media for interview.
But his live-in partner strongly denied they were involved in such crimes as alleged by authorities.
Abello said Solayman is a merely student and has nothing to do with the alleged crimes that they were accused of.
She said they were surprised why the police swopped down at them and arrested them.
She added they just got out of a store buying groceries at that time they were arrested.
Abello also claimed they were surprised why there was a gun and a sachet of suspected shabu that the police have recovered from Solayman’s person.
Pontillas said some of the motorcycle theft and murder cases that occurred these past weeks in the city are considered solved.
But he added they have yet to search for another suspect, a lesbian, who’s believed to be Solayman’s cohort in certain crimes.
