THE Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) launched simultaneously, all over the country, on Monday its “Alaga Ka” program to reach out to all Filipinos to become members of the country’s universal health coverage.

Datu Masiding Alonto Jr., PhilHealth regional vice president for Northern Mindanao, said that through their office, it is the endeavor of government to provide all Filipinos the best health services.

“We want to see in the near future where no Filipinos are deprived of hospitalization or any form of health services simply because they are poor,” Alonto said.

He said “Alaga Ka” program is for the best interest of all Filipinos, an event dedicated to bringing PhilHealth’s regional offices closer to the public.

The “Alaga Ka” program is aimed at bringing the National Health Insurance Program to Filipinos who have not enrolled due to circumstances such as financial limitations or geographic isolation.

The launching of the “Alaga Ka” was simultaneous in all 17 regions of the country; each region hosting its launching in the regional capitals and or strongholds.

In Northern Mindanao, the launching was at the Nazareth Barangay gym where more than 500 would-be new PhiliHealth members from barangays Nazareth, Macasandig and Carmen participated.

The new PhilHealth registrants were given their membership data record (MDR), proof of membership even without the PhilHeal card.

During the launching, other services given by other line agencies, such as the Departments of Health, Interior and Local Government, and Social Welfare and Development, were the updating of MDRs, basic physical check up and consultations, blood pressure and body mass index measurements.

The participants were given orientation on the updated PhilHealth policies and benefits, and inquiry desks were set up on case-by-case scenarios.
