Oro tax collection hits P500-M target-A A +A

REVENUE collection in Cagayan de Oro City has reached its target owing to the turnout of tax payments in the first quarter of 2014.
City treasurer Glenn Bañez said tax collections at present has reached more than P500 million from the 5,000 taxpayers accounting to 33 percent of business establishments.
“We are confident that we will attain our target of P2.6 billion by yearend since this early we have already exceeded in our quarterly target,” Banez said.
The treasurer’s office that underwent renovation could now accommodate taxpayers in its comfortable air-conditioned lounge where transacting business is made easy as the waiting time for every transaction would only be less than 10 minutes.
The lounge that has tellers in front and both sides can sit about a hundred clients whose priority numbers are computerized and indicate which teller they can give their payment.
Unlike the old system, taxpayers will no longer have to wait in line and endure the heat before they could pay at the counter.
Bañez said his office has new computer systems that would register in real time all types of transactions and the corresponding payments made.
“The computerization will avoid the risk of handling cash among the tellers since all payments have been accounted for at the end of the office hour,” Banez said.
Asked whether there are other things to correct at the treasurer’s office, Bañez said that they still have to re-educate the personnel, especially those at the frontline transacting business.
“There is a need to re-educate the personnel especially the tellers in their ability to compute the right payables, notwithstanding that they have to be reminded of their attitude toward their clients where they sometimes show arrogance forgetting that the taxpayers are customers,” Bañez said.
