ONE of the most wanted in illegal drugs related crimes was arrested at Barangay Nazareth along 31st street corner Ramonal village road here on Black Saturday, April 19.
SPO3 Antonio Sambaan, the team leader of the operatives sent to arrest Zayde Rondina Arias, 23, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that Arias ranked seventh in the list of the top 10 most wanted in the city.
Police record showed that Arias has four pending warrants on violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act with no bail bond for sections 5,6,11 and a bail bond of P40,000 for section 12.
“Abi niya magpahuway ang police nga mag Biyernes Santo (So, he thought the police would be resting on Good Friday),” Sambaan said.
The police spent all night in planning and preparing to capture Arias.
While pursuing Arias, the police also caught four suspected persons who allegedly used prohibited drugs.
Arias tried to escape arrest through the window while his live-in partner tried to deny the police entry. Arias, Sambaan said, also tried breaking the bamboo flooring of the house to escape, but failed.
“Mura ni siya’g Robin Hood, manghatag-hatag sa mga silingan, dili kwarta, kun di’ mga butang, drugs ug uban pa (He is like Robin Hood who would give something to neighbors. It’s not money but stuff like things, prohibited drugs among others),” Sambaan added.
The police said Arias lived with his relatives in different houses to take refuge.
During the arrest, the police confiscated from Arias and the four others: 52 pieces of playing cards with cash of P730, four heat-sealed transparent cellophane containing white crystalline substance believed to be ‘Shabu,’ two unsealed small transparent cellophane with white crystalline residue, two rolled cigarette foil containing dried marijuana leaves and 12 pieces of small transparent cellophane and other drugs paraphernalia.
Sambaan led the said operation together with SPO1 Augustin Maglangit, SPO1 Mark Anthony Daclag, PO3 Jimmy Vicente and PO2 Manolito Budo.
The suspects are detained at Macasandig Police Station-9. They will undergo further investigation for police to file appropriate charges in court. (Lynyrd Alexsei N. Corrales/XU-DevCom Intern)
