Ordinance raising village health workers' allowance okayed

BARANGAY health workers (BHW), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and childhood development teachers would soon be enjoying an increase of their allowance after the City Council enabled an ordinance to raise the said stipend.

Councilor President Elipe said the city council grants the P900 increase thus raising the current P2,400 monthly allowance to P3,500 excluding the honorarium these workers received from their respective barangays where they are serving.

Elipe said that this is already an enabling ordinance granting the increase but it would also require the availability of funds.

“Angayan ra pud sila nga tagaan sa increase ug angay nga patas sila tanan because they are all working if they were promised a higher amount wala nami labot kay they should’ve consulted the council that approves the budget before mag-promise,” Elipe said.

Elipe said the increase could possibly be implemented in January next year.

Meanwhile, the Childhood Development coordinator Dr. Reuben Daba said the increase is an insult to these workers.

“Panamastamas mana maypag wala nalang sila gi-increasan kay murag wala raman gihapon considering sa mga panginahanglanon ani mga workers sa matag adlaw,” Daba said.

Daba asked, “ing-ana diay ang pagsaludo nila sa mga workers ug ing-ana ra kabarato ang ilang sakripisyo?

Daba said if the city council would open their hearts they would realize that the increase is even smaller than what is due to these workers who are the frontliners in serving the grassroots.

But still, Daba advises these workers to continue working despite the expected minimal increase.
