SLOWLY, the city of Cagayan de Oro has finally found its character when it comes to holding its feast. Rooted from its defined city of Golden Friendship character – Higalaay Festival was crafted.

In its month-long activities, it highlights the parade of floats and icons. Floats that go with the times and the icons that remind us of how the city evolved from its history to politics.

Vibrant colors filled the main thoroughfares as winners of the city carnival parade held on August 20 strutted on the streets beginning at Rodelsa Circle to the Limketkai mall grounds Saturday, August 27.

About 107 participants from various sectors joined the parade turning the traditional civic-military parade into lively and colorful one without compromising the customs.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno and Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy and the other city officials led the government agencies together with the contingent coming from the Philippine National Police and the fourth Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

Of course, the parade had been made even lovelier as it showcased the 2016 Miss Cagayan de Oro winners and the other candidates.

Floats from various companies and organizations in the city also displayed their work of art. Concentrix Services Corporation whose float came out the champion was an apt symbol of the City of Golden Friendship as the golden-yellow smiling sun was spread on its float infecting the spectators of its warm smile. Palawan Pawnshop & Palawan Express Pera Padala garnered the first runner up while the Zonta club of Cagayan de Oro as second runner up.

The winner of the float parade competition got P100,000, the first runner up won P70,000 and the second runner up received P50,000.
