THE traffic enforcer allegedly slapped by City Councilor Zaldy Ocon wanted Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno to intervene to ensure that the fight between him and Ocon, a Moreno ally, is fair and square.
Ric Emmanuel Agustin, a traffic enforcer at the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), is also seeking Moreno’s help after Ocon threatened to have him thrown out of the RTA for supposed arrogance.
“Unta tabangan ko ni mayor kung unsa man iyang desisyon (I hope the mayor can help me whatever decision he will make),” Agustin said.
Agustin was supposedly slapped by Ocon inside the City Council session hall last December 1 after the former, along with Task Force Hapsay Dalan Chair Edgardo Uy and RTA’s Engineer Nonito Oclarit, confronted Ocon regarding a traffic violation earlier in the day.
For his part, Ocon claimed it was not the citation ticket for the traffic violation that angered him but the supposed arrogance and discourtesy of Agustin when the latter approached him.
Ocon said the RTA has a number of traffic law enforcers who are lacking in discipline and training in traffic management which often lead to unresolved traffic problems.
Agustin likewise appealed to other members of the City Council to look at the issue fairly.
Aside from wanting Agustin fired from the RTA, Ocon also wants the City Council to recommend the ouster of the Task Force Hapsay Dalan Chair Edgardo Uy.
“Usa ra akong panawagan kang mayor ug sa City Council tan-awon nila unsay sakto ug patas nga pagtan-aw sa hitabo (What I can appeal to the mayor and the City Council is that they will look at the issue accurately and fairly),” Agustin added.
Opposition councilor Leon Gan, however, said Moreno should not interfere with the issue to pave the way for an impartial probe.
Gan said it is better if Moreno allows the proper agency to take its course.
“Mas maayo nga dili lang manghilabot ang mayor kay duna may sakto nga ahensya nga mohimo sa pakisusi. Hulaton na lang ang resulta sa imbestigasyon (It's better if the mayor would not interfere since we have the right agency to look onto the issue. We have to wait for the result of the investigation),” Gan said.
