Soldier arrested in Oro for attempted rape

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

A SOLDIER was arrested early Tuesday morning, January 10, inside a drive-in motel for allegedly attempting to rape a 23-year-old girl whom he randomly picked up in Divisoria at dawn in Cagayan de Oro City.

Policemen from Police Station 4 in Barangay Carmen arrested 22-year-old Private First Class Klintone Dalid from Agusan del Sur at Queensland Hotel in Barangay Kauswagan.

Dalid was arrested at around 4 a.m. after his alleged victim called her friends while in the comfort room. The victim's friends, in turn, asked the help of police.

The victim said she was walking along the Divisoria area after having left a disco bar when Dalid and his companion suddenly forced her to get in their car.

On the way to the inn, Dalid's companion decided to leave because according to the victim “he was overcome with guilt.”

Upon reaching the hotel, the victim, who was under the influence of alcohol, tried to convince Dalid that they should not have sex but should just lie and sleep next to each other to spend the night.

As soon as Dalid and the victim were in bed, the suspect, however, started to sexually touch the victim which led her to run to the comfort room.

The victim said the comfort room's door would not lock so she tried to push the door close while the suspect tried to open it from the outside.

It was there that she called her friends to ask for help.

Dalid is now at the custody of the Carmen police and declined to comment regarding the attempted rape case filed against him.

An official of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) said the victim should lodge a complaint so they could officially tackle the matter.

"We will immediately conduct our investigation about the case of our erring soldier. We also urge the victim to file a formal complaint to our headquarters so that we could easily expedite the administrative case against that soldier. The 4ID does not condone any wrong doing of its troops," said Captain Joe Patrick Martinez, 4ID spokesperson.
