Cops, PDEA nab 3 in Cagayan de Oro drug bust

Monday, March 20, 2017

A FEMALE “Tokhang” surenderee and two other suspected drug personalities were arrested in a joint drug bust of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Northern Mindanao at Ramonal village, Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, March 17.

The police identified the drug suspects as Jocelyn Pacanot, 30, Cris Fuentes, 30, and June Brazil, 35, all residents of the said village.

Authorities seized some 13 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or locally known as "shabu" valued around P15,000 to P20,000.

Joint elements of the police and the anti-narcotics agency raided the house of Pacanot and caught the suspects in the act of having a pot session.

Chief Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas, City Drug Enforcement Unit chief, said Pacanot was number 3 in the PNP and PDEA target watchlist.

Pontillas said Pacanot was a high value target because of her supposed distribution network in the illegal drug trade.

"Notorious siya nga drug pusher and validated na sa PDEA. Napriso ni siya sa una tungod sa drugs pero nakapyansa (She is a notorious drug pusher and that was validated by the PDEA. She was imprisoned before but was able to post bail)," Pontillas said.

The suspects are now detained at the Maharlika detention cell and will face charges on the violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Some 832 policemen, meanwhile, has undergone the surprise drug test over the weekend as part of the internal cleansing aimed at ridding out police scalawags in Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).

Cocpo spokesperson Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said the unannounced drug test among policemen is part of the continuous efforts in making the city free from the illegal drug menace.

Senior Superintendent Robert Roy Bahian assumed his post as acting city police director on Wednesday, March 15, and said he will intensely prosecute the government's war on drugs.

Bahian said he will start by cleansing the police ranks.

Bahian led the drug test conducted by the PNP crime laboratory immediately after the regular rank inspection at the Pelaez Sports Center.

The rank inspection aimed to check and monitor the proper wearing of police uniform.
