Former Cagayan de Oro City councilor passes away

Friday, April 21, 2017

FORMER Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Jose Abbu passed away at 3 a.m. Thursday, April 20 due to the effects of internal bleeding.

His daughter, lawyer Ruseliz Anne Abbu, said that the ex-city councilor has not been well since Monday, this week. After a few days under medical care, Abbu experienced multiple heart attacks and organ failure this morning which eventually lead to his death.

Abbu was 70 years old.

He was a city councilor under the terms of former mayor Aquilino Pimentel and former mayor Vicente Emano. In his days in the City Council from the 1980s to 1998, Abbu was largely a part of the council's housing, rural, and urban development committee.

He was born in the province of Camiguin on September 23, 1946 and stayed there until he met his wife, Judge Flor Sealana. Abbu then relocated to Cagayan de Oro city with his wife and made their residence in Barangay Puntod. The couple then had four children.

Before entering the city's politics, Abbu served as a police officer of the Cagayan de Oro Police Office. After which he chose to run as a city councilor in the same party with former Mayor Pimentel.

Most of the people he worked with in the city administration remembered him to be a jolly and out-going person.

Councilor Leon Gan stated that one of the things that characterized late Kagawad Abbu was his hardwork in the council.

"He was indeed a great loss for us in the city administration and his work all those years in the city administration," Gan said.

His wake is at the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapels starting today, April 21.
