AUTHORITIES nabbed on Thursday morning, June 15, a wanted Maute bomber, who, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Northern Mindanao, was planning to conduct terrorist attack in Cagayan de Oro City.
Brigadier General Gilbert Gapay, deputy commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (Easmincom), said in a statement released on Thursday that Mohammad Noaim Maute alias Abu Jadid, was arrested by the team of martial law Special Action Group, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Office around 6:30 a.m. in Sta. Cruz, Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.
Gapay said the captured terrorist is listed in the Arrest Order 1 issued by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorezana last May 29 for violation of Article 134 for rebellion under Revised Penal Code amid the ongoing crisis in Marawi City.
He added Mohammad was initially brought to Cagayan de Oro Police Station 9 for documentation and proper disposition.
Gapay said the authorities are still investigating the relationship of Mohammad to the Maute brothers, who led the terror attack in Marawi City.
The suspect was using a fake student identification (ID) card of Mindanao State University in the name of Alfaiz P. Mamintal. His identity as Mohammad Noaim Maute was confirmed by the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.
Mohammad, a resident of Butig, Lanao del Sur, and an Arabic teacher in Marawi City, was reportedly admitted upon interrogation that he is the person in the local terrorist group gallery named Abu Jadid.
Last week, a person supposedly bearing the same name was arrested in Cagayan de Oro City but was later released after his identity was cleared not connected with Maute Group.
The Easmincom is intensifying its intelligence gathering and assured the public that their actions will always be in adherence to the rule of law.
In a separate statement, Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao said that a concerned citizen had given them the information of his whereabouts after noticing a resemblance of him to the terrorist in the wanted gallery.
The police immediately conducted monitoring at his rented house located at Sitio Sta. Cruz, Macasandig and led to his arrest. He is now under the custody of the Regional Intelligence Division PRO-Northern Mindanao.
Police Chief Superintendent Agripino Javier commended the operating personnel on the ground for their successful operation.
He also expressed his appreciation to the community for their cooperation and immediate report to the authorities of his suspicious activities.
