THE Department of Justice (DOJ) named Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Charisse Galarrita-Bitoon as the new officer-in-charge (OIC) of the City Prosecutor's Office on Thursday, June 15, following Merlynn Uy’s new assignment as head of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre issued the order on June 15, Thursday, a week after former regional prosecutor Jaime Umpa passed away due to colon cancer.
"As OIC, prosecutor Galarrita-Bitoon shall be authorized to discharge the mandate of the said office. Likewise, she shall be entitled to the benefits and privileges appurtenant to the said position," the order said.
"This order takes effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders," the order adds.
Uy had been acting as the city prosecutor OIC since last August 8, 2016 when she replaced ex-city prosecutor Fidel Macauyag.
