A MAN died after jumping off the 8th floor of a university building in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday noon, August 11.
Senior Police Officer 1 Francis Michael Fortunado, investigator at Agora Police Station, said the man remains unidentified.
Around 11 a.m., Fortunado said they received a report that a man jumped from the 8th floor of the University of Southern Philippines' (USTP) New Engineering Building.
Fortunado said the victim was neither a staff nor a student of the university, much more a construction worker since there is no ongoing construction work inside.
"We are still investigating this incident, we are not sure yet but initially we are looking at the suicide angle because before jumping, he left his slippers at the 8th floor under the window where he jumped, so maybe it was intentional. We’re also trying to find out whether the man was mentally-ill," Fortunado said.
Investigators are still waiting for the school to release its closed-circuit television (CCTV) files to find out how the supposed 'deranged man' got in the university, without being detected by the university's security.
"Pero naa man gud sa likod sa eskwelahan, pwede diha malusutan, but we will review the CCTV first," Fortunado said.
In an advisory posted on Facebook, the USTP Chancellor urged students and personnel who witnessed the incident to attend to a debriefing session.
The students were advised to go to each of their College Accre Office on Friday and Sunday.
"We have our psychologists and registered guidance counselor to help process the traumatic experience. We have registered psychologists and guidance counselors to help process the traumatic experience," the advisory said.
