Oro cops sharpen 'shooting skills'

Thursday, October 05, 2017

OVER 200 policemen from the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) have undergone proficiency firing exercises aimed to reinvigorate personnel in handling their service firearm at the firing range in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, on Thursday, October 5.

Cocpo spokesperson Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said there is a need for law enforcers to refresh their gun handling skills and capabilities.

The whole day activity, participated by representatives of the different police stations and units, geared toward determining the level of skills in dealing with their guns and equip them to be efficient in using their weapons in emergency situations like shootouts, and the likes.

"Sagol ni mga babaye ug lalaki nga mga police pero dili tanan kay kinahanglan naa man mabilin sa police stations," Hortillosa said.

"Pinaagi niini mahibaw-an nato unsa nga level ang gun handling skills sa atong kapolisan para kung naay emergency like naay shootout dili madisgrasya ang atong kapolisan," Hortillosa added.

The proficiency firing for Cocpo personnel is a regular gun handling enhancement activity of policemen to also boost their confidence and marksmanship.

Participants were tested and retrained on how to master their issued firearms, shooting skills and techniques, strength and stability.

"I-test gyud ani kung unsa ka maayo mohawid sa armas, kanang pag-igo sa target, kapaspas ug kanang pag-atiman sa armas kay lahi-lahi man og operation ang among mga armas busa dapat i-sweto gyud namo ang operation depende sa klase sa armas," Hortillosa said.

"Gipaagi nato sa competition lahi ang babaye ug lalaki naay team relay competition ug individual competition," Hortillosa added.

Hortillosa said the proficiency firing is facilitated by Chief Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas, head of Cocpo's City Intelligence Unit and a registered range officer together with other civilian range officers.
