Zone 3 wins Kalumpangan fest arc and beautification contest

ZONE 3 emerged champion in this year’s Kalumpangan Festival Arc making and Beautification contest as announced during the Ms. Iponan swim suit competition on February 7 at the open plaza of Barangay Iponan.

Zone 3’s arc featured native materials such as "nigo" for its backdrop and bamboo trees as its foundation.

Ornamental plants such as ferns and recycled stand fan and wooden cases added uniqueness, as well as the cartooned image of Iponan’s patron saint Sr. San Guillermo.

The backdrop was appealing that easily identifies the zone including a signage welcoming the public.

Of course, it will not be more significant without the kalumpang fruits decorated and hang on the arc that symbolizes the identity of the barangay and the festival itself.

A welcome committee in folklore attire greeted the judges to the tune of “Bodotz.”

Defending champions CDORSHP3, commonly known in the barangay as “Urban Poor,” came in second place.

Urban Poor’s entry was similar to last year as it did not only display as an arc but also a watch tower.

A human representation of a datu at the top portrays an ethnic concept including dancers greeting the judges.

The tower was made of bamboo and has variety of appealing and festive colors.

Regency Phase III settled for third place, though the village has simple display of its arc.

RP3 pulled big from its beautification and cleanliness program as a symbol of its big contribution to social responsibility in terms of Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act.

The village developed a beautification landscapes in every corner of its covered courts, even as a presentable material recovery facility for recyclables.

“I had goose bumps kay dikit ra ang resulta unya the judges differ each other,” said Kalumpangan Festival founder and barangay kagawad Anthony Brellita.

Coca-Cola Village came in fourth, while RP1 bagged the fifth place.

“Daghan salamat sa tanan nagsalmot ug hinaut nga mapadayon nato kini ug mas bibo pa next year,” said Brellita, himself a former barangay chairman of Iponan.
