Monday, February 12, 2018

A DRUNKEN state university worker killed a still unidentified woman and seriously injured another male pedestrian in a vehicular accident in Cagayan de Oro City on Monday dawn, Feb. 12.

The suspect Ryan Dimakuta, 26, and a researcher of Mindanao State University (MSU)-Marawi campus, was arrested along Burgos-Magsaysay streets after a brief chase with the police.

Dimakuta, said to be reeking of alcohol, lost control of the Toyota Avanza he was driving when it hit the two pedestrians who tried to cross along Velez-Gomez streets.

The police could not yet identify the killed victim, while the injured was later known as a certain Joseph Ampong.

After hitting them, Dimakuta reportedly continued to drive until he bumped into a Toyota Hi-lux vehicle parked outside a hotel near the police station in Divisoria area.

Police on-duty were alarmed and chased Dimakuta who was flagged down and apprehended along Burgos-Magsaysay streets.

Chief Inspector Julius Clark Macariola IV, police station 1 chief, said the suspect may have been driving very fast as evident on the damage of the car.

"Kung makita nimo ang damage sa sakyanan medyo kusog-kusog gyud iyang dagan," Macariola said.

The police station chief said some bottles of alcoholic beverages were seen inside the suspect's car.

Macariola said the owner of the Toyota Hi-Lux may also press charges against the suspect who is facing reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, serious physical injury and damage to property charges.

Dimakuta will also be charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.
