BFP has new regional director-A A +A
Wednesday, October 6, 2010
A NEW regional director for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Northern Mindanao was installed Tuesday following a relief order for Eleuterio Iturriaga to Western Visayas based in Iloilo City as the regional fire head.
Cagayan de Oro City fire marshal Benigno Amomonpon said Florencio Tutor is the new regional director of the BFP in the region.
Tutor hailed from the BFP central office as one of the administrative officers but was the past assistant regional director in the region prior to his assignment in Manila.
Amomonpon said he intentionally did not attend Tuesday’s turnover ceremony to “keep his distance” from his former superior whom he had past differences with, which resulted to a leadership crisis at the city fire department.
Earlier, Iturriaga filed four graft and corruption charges against Amomonpon before the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged irregularities in the reimbursements of expenses for fire truck repair.
But the Ombudsman ruled in favor of Amomonpon reportedly due to “weak evidences.”
Since then, Amomonpon said Iturriaga “maximized all angles just to get even with him.”
Itturiaga had earlier ordered for a revamp within the regional office of the BFP, sending Amomonpon to Misamis Occidental as the provincial fire chief.
But Amomonpon refused to accept his new assignment by filing for a temporary restraining order. The court, however, ruled for a possible compromise agreement between the two on October 21, 2010. (Loui S. Maliza)
