Medical supplier earns big

THE expansion of several private and government hospitals in Cagayan de Oro has certainly made one supplier of medical equipment richer.

Medical One Corporation (MOC), supplier of General Electric (GE) brands of medical equipment, has reportedly earned an estimated P200 million for its Cagayan de Oro branch alone.

Jeffrey Alvarez, MOC territory manager for Northern Mindanao, said this is because a lot of hospitals in the city are expanding through the purchase of additional and state-of-the art medical equipment.

He cited Capitol University Medical City (CUMC) in Barangay Gusa, the Cagayan de Oro Polymedic Group which recently opened its Polymedic Medical Plaza in Barangay Kauswagan, J.R. Borja Memorial City Hospital in Barangay Carmen and Maria Reyna Hospital as among those that invested on more high-tech and new equipment.

“Cagayan de Oro seems to be looming with new upgraded hospitals wherein patients will no longer go to Luzon to be checked by specialists. Medical One has been upgrading our very own hospitals in the city to compete with the more expensive ones in Luzon,” Alvarez said.

The MOC was established in 1982 in Cebu by Wilbur Canonigo. Among the equipment the company sells are x-ray machines, ultrasound, anesthetic machines, ventilators, ECG (electro-cardio gram) machines, CT scan, 2d echo machines, operating lights and operating tables.

Alvarez said the hospitals can really count on the quality of their products as these are made by General Electric, a reliable company from Germany.

The MOC has branches in Davao, Manila and other areas in the country.

“A lot of hospitals have been upgrading their equipment to cope up with their competitors in Luzon. This is also to provide quality service to their patients,” he said.

Recently, Alvarez said Polymedic Medical Plaza acquired new 2d echo machines while CUMC purchased ventilators and anesthetic machines. Maria Reyna Hospital also purchased CT scan machines while J.R. Borja City Hospital bought new ultrasound machines, ECG and operating tables.

Aside from hospital equipment, GE also makes quality appliances.

As more hospitals are upgrading their facilities, Alvarez said Medical One is also here to provide them with the needed equipment.
