MILO, Puntod summer sports activities on

VARIOUS sports clinics of the so-called Milo Champions Academy resume here today, May 22, at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center.

Event organizer Megdonio R. Llamera said summer camps in gymnastics, tae kwon do, basketball, table tennis, chess, swimming, and sepak takraw are all scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for two weeks to acquaint the young participants with the basic fundamentals of each game.

Sports center manager Oscar H. Cinco is also overseeing the Milo activity that viable and functional venues of the different clinics will be provided, Llamera told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Puntod's own Summer Sports Festival 2009 takes a break as it gives way to a "one-day only" youth chess competition.

The chess tournament, set to unfold today at the Barangay Hall of Puntod, is aimed to expose what the youngsters have learned from last Tuesday's chess clinic being conducted by Woman National Master Cecil

Cuizon and her husband in National Arbiter Jun Cuizon of the City Sports under the supervision of Secretary to the Mayor's Office, Rogelio "Jigs" Jaraula.

"We decided to hold a tournament right after the chess clinic for them to apply what they've learned from the said activity," said Brgy. Puntod councilor Alexis Dacer, even citing basketball, badminton, karatedo, tae kwon do, and boxing among those included in the barangay's summer sports festival.

Dacer said Saturday, May 23, will be the day for dart enthusiasts in the barangay to flex their muscles in another day-long dart tournament.

Capping the monthlong sports festival, Dacer said, is a symposium on global warming, RA 9003, and on anti-drug campaign and human and sex trafficking, and the traditional Sta. Cruzan of Barangay Puntod.
