Mindanao's best in 1st Milo Natl Finals

MINDANAO'S top athletes in grassroots sports will partake in the first ever Milo Little Olympics National Finals geared towards stoking the fire of the country's long-cherished Olympic dreams.

The spacious ground of Cebu City Sports Center will be colored green and white as thousand of Milo shirt-wearing delegates from the four corners of the country (NCR, Luzon, Vizayas, Mindanao) will be paraded in grandiose opening rites set at 6 p.m. Thursday.

"We're both awed and excited at the thought of finally witnessing the fulfillment of a dream--unveiling of the first Milo Little Olympics National Finals--of which we're a big part of it. All things must pass but the Milo legacy will forever be etched in the heart and mind of our young athletes," said Cagayan de Oro's grizzled sports organizer Megdonio "Megs" Llamera, among those instrumentals in improving the landscape of Mindanao sports through Milo's ever-consistent mass-based sports program.
No less than Cebu City Mayor Tomas R. Osmena will grace the sun-less opening of the nation-wide conclave, even as Llamera revealed during coaches and athletes meeting for Mindanao team about the possibility of some political leaders in Northern Mindanao also coming in.

"Pero mas maayo unta nga anaa sila unya mohatag sab og financial support kay labad sa ulo kon magpa-advertise lang sa ilang mga ngalan," Dax Albarece, a father of a taekwondo player, said in jest.

Over a dozen of sports disciplines including the newly-introduced scrabble will be contested in the two-day meet, gathering the country's so-called best of the best in elementary and secondary levels.

At 286, Mindanao is easily the smallest delegation in this four-team meet deemed to build new hope amid the country's hard-up recovery from the devastation brought by typhoons Ondoy and Ramil.
