THERE is good news and bad news.

First, the good news: the Philippine peso has surged ahead of the mighty dollar as it dropped to the P40 mark.

The bad news is: our very own overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their relatives would surely cringe seeing their earnings have drastically been chopped further down.

The feeling would be like having your monthly salary or daily take chipped down to several pesos.

I remember they were jumping in joy when the dollar was pushing P60 in the exchange while importers and exporters were silently praying for the dollar to slide back to its normal level.

With the continued US recession, the dollar stood long at P47 then it slowly dipped to P42 and now to its lowest level in years: P40.

So what’s to do among the relatives of our OFWs?

At the moment that the dollar is at its all-time low, it surely is time for us to cut down on expenses no matter what will be its repercussions in the local economy.

One good suggestion from a radio announcer is for them to avoid, at the moment, the Pinoy-style “bilmoko” attitude.

Make do with whatever Nanay or Tatay can provide you here back home.

Settle at the moment to your old handheld phones, rubber shoes and what have you. This way, mommy and daddy can heave a sigh of relief with your simple gesture of not heaping pressure on them with “bilmokos” amid the dollar crisis.

And indications have it that the dollar could slide further down to P35 in the next few months just like the trend of fossil fuel prices.

We are not only sure, if what we heard is true or not. But for the benefit of tsismosos and tsismosas out there, it’s rumored that Kris Aquino and Sen. Chiz Escudero are dating and very much into each other’s company. What happened to being a close friend of the President Mr. Senator?

Oh well, strange things now happens unstrangely! But of course, both parties deny the rumor. Pero sa isang banda, hindi ba't kapag may usok, may ningas?
