KA ORIS, spokesperson of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines-Mindanao, speaks in his letter Tell it to the Sun Star (Feb. 26, 2013) about ‘the travesty of the Edsa uprising after Edsa’.
According to him, the years that followed Marcos’ fall, in a masterstroke of paradox, were more Marcos than ever because, in them, resurrected his very fascism, made far worse.
Jorge, my advice to you is tell that to the marines but not to the Sun Star. Printing your letter out in Sun Star is a waste of ink and paper. You conveniently gloss over the crime that was committed by the NPA under your command responsibility at the very same time of the Edsa uprising in Manila.
In Antongalon, Agusan Norte, were murdered forty eight of the very same activists – the real heroes of Edsa – who fought the Marcos’ dictatorship during the martial law years until his downfall in the Edsa uprising. And then, after this horrible massacre where two of my parish workers lost their lives also, how many innocent people have been killed under the so-called People’s Democratic Revolution (PDR) that was seeking to put an end to ‘the continuing exploitation and oppression ever present in the semi-feudal, semi-colonial Philippine society under US imperialism and its ruling classes’. You get lost in your own customary rhetoric. Again, tell that to the marines. The people of Mindanao have been suffering continuously under the numerous attacks on the industrial companies which provide employment to hundreds of our people and costly equipment and machineries have been destroyed under the guise that these destroy the environment but in fact you demanded revolutionary taxes from them in order to keep yourself alive.
Jorge, it is high time that you lay down your arms and make peace with the people of Mindanao. Our Moslem brothers and sisters in the south who have signed already a peace agreement with our National Government bring shame upon you who call yourselves Christians and continue killing innocent people. The patience of the people in Mindanao is running out; soon they may wage a war against you to force you to give up the struggle and surrender your arms.
