Forking pork-A A +A

IT’S been a common knowledge that all Muslims around the world do not consume pork meat for reasons that it is “haram” or unlawful and impermissible because it is deemed as impure.
And there are also verses in the Bible that discourages eating of pork, which is why there are some Christian denominations that do not eat the meat of the pig.
For those who are not so sympathetic about spiritual indoctrination, science can also give an explanation why eating pork should be avoided. According to “Consumer Reports,” about 69 percent of all raw pork samples tested (about 200 samples in total) were contaminated with the dangerous bacteria (Yersinia enterocolitica), which causes fever and gastrointestinal illness with diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
The report also said that it “found salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, or Listeriamonocytogenes, more common causes of food-borne illness, in 3 to 7 percent of samples. And 11 percent harbored Enterococcus, which can indicate fecal contamination and can cause problems such as urinary-tract infections."
The list of other reasons why pork is deemed to be dangerous to one’s health continue, ranging from parasites to the fact that pork skin is closely similar to human skin.
And I don’t know why in the history of world politics and governance, they adopted the term “pork barrel” in referring to large amount of budget allocations, and sadly in the Philippines it forebodes a poisonous network of corruption and greed.
Then, it happened, before the exposè of the P10-billion pork barrel scam, there were just “hearsays” and “prophetic” statements about channeling it to the pockets of the few. But now it goes out to the open and to the consciousness of the public, which is why to participate and go out today to call for the total abolition of the pork barrel system in the country is as important as it is our right to demand our government to spend and allocate the taxes they are getting from our hard labor and purchases, and it is never for the comforts of some politicians’ pockets.
Even President Benigno Aquino III said that he “abolishes” the pork barrel system (and take note of the quotation marks in “abolish”), he also planned to “re-channel” it to another term that is not Priority Development Assistance Fund. It is just like the same poison but with different package.
It's just like how the Bible and Qur’an describe pork, and even science saw findings of its dangerous nature when it comes to health, the pork barrel system is as impure and unhealthy as long as it is given importance by the legislators instead of serving the people with meaningful and sane lawmaking functions and investigating anomalies and put those who are guilty accountable.
But who will investigate the whole pork circus if the people involved are just within the ranks of the Congress, and the queen of all these scandals is away and nowhere to be found anymore?
Troublesome, but for now, let your voices heard by going out to join the call for pork barrel’s complete abolition.
