Trash talks-A A +A

AFTER Basura At Iba Pa, Inc. unceremoniously booted out of the contract in the garbage collection business for Cagayan de Oro City, the moment the new administration of Mayor Oscar Moreno took over from the reins of Vicente Emano, a new contract was given to a new corporation -- the IPM Construction and Development Corp. -- that is, without contest from other bidders.
You can read between the lines all you want with regard to how the deal was brokered but one thing is certain: there are still places in the city that are still swarmed with garbage, whether the former contractor existed or not. Well, the local government is not to blame that the city can be messed up with trash in the sidewalks, the barangays, much to the individual residents get the biggest share of why we see garbage being improperly disposed.
I have said this a long time ago, but it is better being reminded, because for one, some barangays do not have many proper garbage disposal bins in almost all of the corners of their jurisdiction. Some barangays only settled with one or two designated garbage area for the garbage to truck to collect.
And most of all, people lack discipline to properly throw their garbage, let alone segregating it since in the first place, there was never a concrete policy to really oblige residents to do so, and requiring people to segregate also means a total overhaul in the garbage disposal system from the homes to the Zayas landfill.
Because it would be quite unpleasant if we are seeing aesthetical developments like the Duaw Park, and the renovation of the Gaston Park as well as the City Hall, yet we still see flying plastics and other trash in some parts of the city because people just throw it anywhere they like.
It’s still not over in the Congress, I guess it never will. We are still witnessing slight developments in the investigation of the pork barrel scam and it may still take a very long time for the real people behind all these orchestration of massive money stealing will be held accountable and face punishment.
Some may get away with it. Some may still win for re-election.
Goodness, it’s always a horror. But if we keep on being vigilant and we have the courage not just to see the irregularities our leaders have made against our government, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. And even though we have reached that light, we should not let our guard down in order not to fall on the same mistakes of the past.
Money -- is perhaps the only non-living thing and non-human that seduces people that later on corrupts the mind and soul of people until nothing is left from them but only shame and bodies that have no souls, and worse than that, it is Greed that ignites all of these and the human being’s imperfection and vulnerability to be easily swayed by the materialistic things, including the longing for Power and Fame.
