Ban firecrackers forever

DEAFENING explosions everywhere in the month of December dominate the atmosphere especially in big cities in the country. Many people die while others are seriously injured in the process.

Children suffer more and some of them even lose fingers, arms, eyes and other parts of the body. Worst, many stores sell huge firecrackers that naturally produce the loudest of sounds to the enjoyment of many people adult and children alike. There are time bombs, watusi, kringkring and other kinds displayed.

The bad thing is: the police could not control the proliferation of these firecrackers. They hear the sounds but they could not pinpoint, much less, make arrest because the perpetrators run or hide and disappears quickly. Everywhere is noisy and smoky and people jump, run, shout, as more firecrackers are let loose by people. Some of these sound like hand grenade or time bombs. They startle people and so destructive to the human ears. Somehow, the enjoyment and pleasure prevail for the sake of the celebration.

The hospitals are busy treating injuries of people especially young boys. Some are confined for their serious injuries. While they are traditionally part of the Christmas celebration and the advent of the New Year, the thing is it appears annoying or boring when hundreds of these firecrackers are exploded. On top of all these, the city streets are filled with waste papers and other remnants of the celebration. It is messy left and right and you hear cries, laughter and shouting.

Many do not like the loud noise, the thunderous sound and frightening chain reactions. I would, therefore, suggest that the government ban forever the manufacture of these firecrackers. The first thing to do is close all factories, do not issue permits to business ventures of these firecrackers. If we really want sounds during the holidays, it should not be the firecrackers that use gunpowder. Find other ways or make things that produce sounds but not with the use of powder. It is the powder that produces wild noise.

Explosions have always been a problem ever since. It is high time that we stop it to deter once and for all the effects of loud explosions. There is that bamboo cannon that is fed with kerosene and it explodes too but it does not injure people. I think this is a better alternative instead of the big firecrackers that some even burn houses nearby. Better still, install loudspeakers and play Christmas songs. We notice the fast few days that several young boys have already been sent to the hospitals because of injuries.

And to think about it, New Year’s Eve as of this writing is still some days away.
