IT IS both shocking and terrifying that the most powerful illegal drug distributor in the world is now in the Philippines and, since then, has gone into action.

Last week, the police raided a place in Lipa, Batangas and confiscated shabu worth P420 million. Added to this, at least three persons suspected to be connected to such illegal drugs were arrested. This underground operation of the Mexicans in trafficking drugs is a big surprise to the law enforcers since this group is considered the most notorious around the world and operating full blast in Mexico and the USA.

According to published reports from New York City, this particular drug cartel is responsible for the establishment of tunnels that connect Mexico and the United States. Described as the largest trafficker in the world, the group has established its business just recently.

Shabu has been refuted to be a fast-selling item in the country. Police are baffled how these Mexican operators have penetrated the Philippines. It was believed the items are shipped from island to island in the country thus evading police operation.

This drug distribution by the syndicates from Mexico is definitely dangerous the moment they establish links in Mindanao.

The reason is in many cities and provinces in the island, lots of underground organizations are operating and because of the peace and order situation there, the police will surely have difficulty penetrating their areas. I, therefore, suggest that the public should interfere with this problem by being alert and report to the police right away any illegal movement of strangers, as well as local residents who might be actively in the business.

This development is definitely bad for the Filipinos because it is estimated that the movement of illegal drugs will be augmented and will reach to the far areas in Mindanao.

More people would be tempted to use drugs because its distribution and marketing will be faster and more organized. It is believed more youngsters in the island will be in grave danger while others may become new users thus spreading the business into many neighborhoods. The police surmised this drug cartel is getting help from China and other countries.

I am very much concerned of the city of Cagayan de Oro because I know so well there are a lot of drug users in the place. Some government employees and law enforcers even are marijuana, shabu and other illegal drugs users. And once the tentacles of this Mexican cartel reach Cagayan de Oro, it will flow easily to the provinces of Agusan, Surigao, Lanao, Misamis Occidental and Bukidnon.

Unless this proliferation of the illegal business is checked, it will engulf Mindanao with more difficulties.
