OUR situation: Cagayan de Oro, the national capital and the rest of the nation has been plundered and battered, fiscally mismanaged, dirty, filthy and congested. Environmentally mismanaged, flooding and pollution have been the new normal. Yet, politicians prioritize patronage, personal comfort and entitlement. We are a mirror of a sick nation whose values have been rotten and shaken.

What can be done? A Pastor asked me.

What we need is a God-centered; relentless and continuing journey and advocacy toward establishing communities and a government which are characteristically honest and ethical; transparent, accountable, participatory, equitable, environmentally conscious and sustainable.” – God HE TAPES!

Why God Centered?

Why Pray?

The PDP-Laban organized by former Senate president Nene Pimentel, the late Mordino Cua, pillar of the cooperative movement in the Philippines and Asia and others called it the principle theism or belief in God.

This is a very misunderstood principle because believing in God is not only about knowing and acknowledging His existence but also in the doing of what He preaches. In Scripture it is written in James, ''faith without works is dead.” The Israelites had God's warning about destruction in Chronicles 7:19 when He told Solomon, "But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you, I will uproot Israel from my land which I have given them." Corruption, greed and a culture of political patronage are the evils that have enslaved us. Deliverance is the blessing which can save us. Thus, Solomon was told in Chronicle 7:14 that " If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I the Lord from heavens will I hear from them, forgive their sins and heal their land."

Why Ethical and Honest?

Honesty is telling the truth. Honesty is straightforward conduct. Honesty is being sincere, truthful, trustworthy, honorable, fair, genuine, and loyal with integrity. Ethical means is pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct.

The Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals painted it on the wall near the COA and in front of city hall. "BCBP has for its flagship advocacy the “Be Honest” campaign that aims to counter the culture of corruption and dishonesty plaguing Philippine society. In order to be an honest person or a person of Integrity, the BCBP said people “need to take a look at God’s characteristics and see that any action we take conforms to God’s character.” Yet, we do not just need honest businessmen and professionals. We need honest politicians who will lead our City and country.

Why Transparent?

"Transparency in business and science context more generally, implies openness, communication and accountability. Transparency is operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed. For example, a cashier making change at a point of sale by segregating a customer's large bill, counting up from the sale amount, and placing the change on the counter in such a way as to invite the customer to verify the amount of change demonstrates transparency." – Wikepedia

In government, that means access to information. Thus, the Freedom of Information Bill is now championed in Congress by Congresswoman Leni Robredo and in the Senate by Senator Grace Poe. Is it not coincidental that our women representatives today are leading us into this important law to be approved? Our right to information enshrined in the Constitution must be institutionalized through the FOI Law to guarantee that transparency among public officials and employees becomes a norm and not simply discretion of individuals bound by their terms of office.
