WITH kiddies entries (14-under) now going 300, the Cagayan de Oro leg of the 18th Shell National Youth Active Chess is almost done with its maximum target of 500 participants.
The junior category (20 and below), however, is still wide-open with Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) almost single-handedly filling up the first 100 slots.

"Medyo ga-decline gyod ang number sa mga juniors, though our strong and continuous program for the kiddies is telling why gapanobra na `ta sa 14-under level," observed Asset-in-chess trainer Lorenzo "Jun" Cuizon.
Cagayan de Oro will host the first of two Mindanao legs of the Shell Active chess on Sept. 11-12 at the fully-airconditioned City Tourism Hall.
Free t-shirt and McDo lunch will be provided on the opening day, apart from juicy cash prizes and trophies and a chance for an all-expense paid trip to Manila for the top-3 winners in each bracket. LLScollege varsity level at 6 p.m.
