THE price of brown sugar being sold in different supermarkets and grocery stores in Cagayan de Oro are still up, based on the monitoring of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office.
Based on the DTI's weekly monitoring, brown sugar is now sold at P35.35 per kilo, up from last week's price of P34.50 per kilo, which is also way up its price of P33.10 per kilo two weeks ago.
Last week, the price of white sugar also rose by 10 centavos to P44.50 per kilo from its week-ago price of P44.40 per kilo. This week, white sugar still stood at P44.50 per kilo.

The DTI also noted an increase in the price of some brands of first-class flour, which is now pegged at P730 per 25-kilogram bag compared with last week's price of P698. However, this week's price is still way below the suggested retail price (SRP) of P765 per bag.
Some brands of flour were also noted to have dec-reased, from P850 per bag last week to P790 this week.
Other basic commodities such as canned sardines, processed milk, coffee (refill), detergent/laundry soap, processed/canned pork, vinegar, patis, soy sauce and bath soap still have the same price with last week's, which are still way below the SRP level.
However, other commodities such as some brands of processed/canned beef, instant noodles and batteries have the same price as last week but are slightly up the SRP level.
The DTI has been conduc-ting regular monitoring on the prices of basic commodities to know if there is any movement on their prices.
The monitoring was done on at least 15 supermarkets and groceries and 10 hardwares in the city.
