THE Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental vows to continue building more classrooms within the province in time for the opening of classes in June.
Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno said there are eight elementary and secondary public schools in the province that need additional classrooms, aside from the on-going construction of an 18-classroom building inside the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) in Cagayan de Oro.

Moreno said the high school in Molugan, El Salvador, which was opened last year, will need six additional classrooms since enrolment in the first-year level is expected to increase.
“Constructing more classrooms in Molugan High School, however, will require landfill work just like the one high school in Naawan which also needs two more classrooms before the opening of classes,” Moreno said during his weekly live television program.
The other schools that need more classrooms include Rosario Elementary School in Balingasag (three classrooms); Lumbo Elementary School (three classrooms); Lureza High School in Gingoog City (three classrooms); Maymay Elementary School in Balingasag (two classrooms); Ampinikan Elementary School in Salay (two classrooms); and Dumarait Elementary School in Balingasag (two classrooms).
Moreno’s assurance came even as schools of various levels, both public and private, are gearing up for graduation rites and the perennial classroom backlog during opening of classes is prevalent in many areas in the country.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) reported that since January this year, 22 classrooms in 11 elementary and secondary schools have already been completed and turned over to the Schools Division of Misamis Oriental.
Engineer Rolando M. Pacuribot, PEO head, said the schools that have received the two-classroom buildings include Patag Elementary School in Opol; Kibaghot NHS in Laguindingan; Kibaghot ES in Laguindingan; Cabalawan ES in Magsaysay; Dahilig ES in Balingoan; Pangpangon ES in Talisayan; Medina NHS in Medina; Corrales ES in Jasaan; Retablo ES in Libertad; and Ili-ilihon ES in Salay.
The Provincial Government spent more than P21 million for the newly completed 11 school building projects.
