SM hosts solar-powered car

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

TO PROMOTE the use of solar energy and stir awareness on smoke-free environment, Sikat, the country’s second solar-powered car, is set for a roadshow and public display at the Atrium of SM City Cagayan de Oro on January 30 and 31 during mall hours.

Sikat, which means ‘sunrise,’ is a byproduct and an improved version of Sinag (rays of the sun), the first ever solar-powered car in the Philippines that was launched in 2007.

Sikat is made of a lightweight carbon fibre found in F1 car mo-dels and with improved design features such as new generation sun power cells and a sleeker, more maneuverable and aerodynamic design. It was created and designed by a team of students and teachers from the mechanical and electronics and communications engineering department of De La Salle University.

The roadshow also hopes to inspire more Filipinos to preserve the environment.
Everyone is invited to see the second Philippine-made solar car and help make a difference by supporting the Filipino ingenuity and save the environment. (Press Release)
