Organizers said the peace celebration is very timely to promote the sport, which has been away from the limelight for years now.
The launching of Mindanaw Judo for Peace Program is also aimed towards imparting the youth the good values, principles and skills of judo as an art not for "war fighting" and "violence", but as a tool for peace keeping, reconciliation and society building.
SPJA president Jose Aluyen said the tournament intends to attract school children ages 8 to 17 years old.
