IN CELEBRATION of the Mindanao Week of Peace, the Cagayan de Oro Judo Club in partnership with the South Philippines Judo Association and Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc. will stage the Mindanaw Judo for Peace competition at SM City on November 26 and 27.
Paul Paraguya of Balay Mindanaw said the two-day competition is in support to the Judo for Peace program of the International Judo Federation.

“This competition adapts the vision and philosophy of making judo a tool for peace keeping, reconciliation and society building,” Paraguya said.
“We want to show the young that judo can be harnessed for better understanding, humility, respect to peace-building and not to fighting and violence,” he said.
More than 100 participants, some coming from as far as Cebu and Manila, will join the event, according to John Ross Aseneta, president of the South Philippines Judo Association.
Aseneta said one of the biggest contingents will be coming from Davao City, which is fielding athletes from two schools -- University of Mindanao Judo Club and the Holy Cross of Davao Judo Club.
“They are fielding a total of 36 players and they have five officials with them,” Aseneta said.
He said weigh-in is scheduled at the SM Cagayan de Oro today, November 26. (PR)
