Oro cagers maul Mis Oriental

A FOUR-WAY logjam virtually ensued in ballgame competitions of the Clustered 2 Meet Northern Mindanao Regional Palaro concluded recently in Iligan City.
While Cagayan de Oro won the championships in secondary boys' basketball and volleyball, host Iligan reigned in high school girls' volleyball, beating Misamis Oriental in three sets.
Misamis Oriental, however, took revenge in secondary girls' basketball, defeating the Oro cagebelles even as Bukidnon province provided the biggest surprise by scoring an upset win against defending champion COAA team of coach Jun Velez in elementary boys’ basketball.
The junior dribblers of coach Boy Dacoco earlier proved that their 32-point conquest of Misamis Oriental was no fluke by mauling the same foe again in the finals by 22 points.
Putting up a good fight in table tennis and struggling in arnis challenge, the Cagayan de Oro Athletic Association (COAA) squad got the better, however, in the individual events when it made a rare-sweep finish of the chess team championships.
Baseball, boxing and softball competitions were already concluded during the first edition of the clustered meet in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
The largest number of sports disciplines in what considered by Palaro veterans, as an "experimental regional meet" will be hosted by Cagayan de Oro starting on Saturday.
These are the remaining events in swimming, athletics, football, lawn tennis, archery, gymnastics, taekwondo, football, badminton, sipa takraw and the Special Games for special school children. (Lynde Salgados)
