TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – Six lawmakers visited Lanao del Norte last June 8 for a friendly basketball game against Lanao Norte LGU at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) Gymnasium here.
Among the congressmen who participated in the friendly match were representatives Rommel Amatong (2nd District Compostela Valley), Jonathan Yambao (1st District Zamboanga Sibugay), Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman (1st District Lanao del Sur), Yevgeny Vincente Emano (2nd District Misamis Oriental), Diosdado Arroyo (2nd District Camarines Sur) and Sigfrido Tinga (2nd District Taguig City).
The House of Representatives basketball squad was led by Emano, its team captain, while Governor Khalid Dimaporo was the leader for Team Lanao del Norte.

The team from the Lower House has already played in the cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Taguig, Antipolo and Caloocan.
The basketball match is part of Governor Dimaporo’s tourism initiative to help promote the province through positive testimonies from government leaders and even TV personalities who have personally witnessed the peacefulness and beauty of Lanao del Norte.
“This is a very welcome event. It’s nice that they took time to visit our countryside, especially Lanao del Norte, and see for themselves our situation here,” Dimaporo said.
Playing in the preliminary game were the Kapatagan LGU and Red Team-PGLDN. The Kapatagan team prevailed with the final score of 79-65.
In the main game, the House of Representatives edged out Team Lanao del Norte with a come-from-behind victory after trailing for three quarters.
When the buzzer sounded, Team Congress won 72-63.
“This is an opportunity to open Lanao del Norte to other places in the Philippines through our leaders. It is an opportunity to show the province’s beauty and bounty. And that we have a good and strong leadership here,” said Rep. Fatima Aliah Dimaporo (2nd District).
Prior to the game, the lawmakers attended a press conference at the MCC Hotel organized by the Provincial Information Office to answer questions from the local media. (PR)
