INSPIRED by the success of its maiden show, the city-wide Mayor Dongkoy Emano Cup sportsfest will be back in the third week of July to kick off its second installment of the Fiesta Conference season.
"We can't resist from making a ‘follow through’ kon sa basketball pa (like in basketball) after the big success of the Mayor's Cup first edition. Kumbinsido ang mayor ingon man ang anak (Rep. Bambi Emano) nga kusganong mipaluyo niining maong kalambuan sa siyudad nga gamba na kita sa next edition (both Emanos, who improved the city, are convinced we are ready for the next edition)," Mayor's Cup organizer Gerry Sabal told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Like the summer season, Sabal said the 2nd Mayor's Cup will feature the two inter-barangay events in basketball at the Acsat covered court and Bulua gym. The chess tournament will be at the Car Park building of SM City.
No less than Yevgeny Emano, the second district Representative of Misamis Oriental, will reportedly preside over the technical meeting of the Mayor's Cup organizers on Friday at the City Hall.
"Sa maong panagtigom atong makauban ang mga referees sa basketball with Dandan Jaminal on the lead and national arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon sa chess," Sabal said.
In the first Mayor’s Cup, Lapasan won over Iponan, 74-66, in basketball finals for the premier Open division title. Kauswagan bested Puerto, 97-92 to secure the 18-under crown, while Cugman overpowered Lapasan, 82-68 for the 14-under plum.
Meanwhile, National Master Levi Mercado of Barangay Patag relied on higher tiebreak points to become the first ever champion of the Mayor's Cup chess tournament.
