AT LEAST 40 teams from the different barangays of Cagayan de Oro City will see action in the 2nd Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament that will kick off on 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bulua gym here.
“We were impressed by the tremendous success of the first edition strongly supported by Congressman Bambi Emano, and that’s why we re-launch this inter-barangay basketball tournament as part of our city fiesta celebration,” Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Emano said.
Aside from the big cash prizes at stake in the open division, 18-under and 14-under categories, tournament director Gerry Sabal said both the spectators and the players will also have a chance to win free cellphones and basketballs in a raffle during the opening rites.
“Because of the class schedules, we are scheduling the games every Friday (5:30 pm to 9 pm) and Saturday and Sunday (2 p.m. to 9 p.m.),” Sabal told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
For the Mayor’s Cup chess tournament slated to be held on August 27-28 at the ground floor of SM City’s Car Park, Fide Arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon said they are expecting around 500 participants.
“Since it is free of registration fee unya naa pa gyo’y mga free shirts nga ipanghatag, we’re almost certain to hit our target number of participants just like in the first edition being held at same venue,” Cuizon said. (PR)
