STUNG by its double-debacle for the overall honors in the just-held Milo Little Olympics, ‘Home of Champions’ Corpus Christi is poised to seek payback in the Milo Best basketball and 1st PBESAA Meet still in progress as of this writing in the different playing venues in the city.
Corpus Christi’s SBP and pasarelle squads battled reigning Milo Best kings Sacred Heart Saints at the Macasandig’s covered court. While the CCS Knights in other sports disciplines were also in contention in the multi-farious meet that formed part of the Private Basic Education Schools Athletic Association’s inaugural show.
“Wala kaayo koy idea sa among standing sa nilabay nga Milo Little Olympics. But as far as the Milo Best basketball is concerned, mga 20 years na nga wala nakatilaw og championship ring among school,” said Corpus Christi’s basketball head coach Hermogenes Anciado who thanks no end fellow cage mentors Andy Calingin, Bobax Echalico, Carlo Dagalea and Pastor Richard Tangara for backing him up all the way.
“We’re in the finals both in the SBP (Small Basketeers) and pasarelle divisions of the Milo Best regional eliminations. The CCS Knights also made it in the semifinals of the PBESAA basketball and these made us all optimistic nga ma-champion ra gyod mi’g balik,” the hard-working Echalico told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Already, Corpus Christi stamped class early in the centerpiece events winning big in swimming and athletic competitions while making a big start in taekwondo, gymnastics, volleyball and chess rivalries.
“Nawala sa eksena ang Xavier University Junior Crusaders ni coach Manny Diaz kay gi-eliminate sa Corpus Christi. Pero naka-establish na sa basketball ang Sacred Heart. Dili pa gihapon ma basta-basta sa Corpus ang mga wards ni coach Boy Dacoco,” said one local sports buff, just among those excited by the resurgent of the storied Anciado-Dacoco rivalry in Cagayan de Oro basketball.
