A RENEWED coaching rivalry between Boy Dacoco and Hermogenes Anciado is now in store after their respective teams made it to the Cagayan de Oro leg finals of the SeaOil NBTC Elite League 2012-2013 season at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

Having a lengthy talk and shaking hands before parting off the venue’s frontcourt bleachers for their scheduled game assignments, Dacoco and Anciado -- equally known to fans for their intriguing on-and-off friendship -- were both optimistic of their chances to cross paths anew in inter-school basketball championship like they used to do in the past.

And they were just proven right.

Dacoco’s Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School crushed St. Mary’s School, 116-91, while Anciado’s Corpus Christi turned down the challenge of host Xavier University, 96-91 on Sunday’s semifinal matches.

Their best-of-3 final series will start on January 20 at same venue.

“Very exciting atong NBTC Finals kay sa una pa daghan na ang gasunod ining coaching rivalry nilang Boydacs (Dacoco) ug Ansing (Anciado),” tournament director Arvin Martinez told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

At least six Sacred Heart players scored in double-digit numbers with the foursome of seasoned regulars Jed Brent Baltazar (22), Glenn Gallardo (15), Jio Carlo Agusan (13) and Paul Anthony Reyes (13) leading the charge to outlast the SMS wards of Rene Ilogon and assistant coach Chow Vega who managed to take the lead, 14-12 with still 3:35 left in the first quarter.

“Gubot lang kaayo among dula sa XU kay pikas-pikas natawagan og technical,” said Carlo Dagalea, who along with Pastor Richard Tangara, provided Anciado an able back-up on the Corpus Christi bench.

Anciado’s trusted veterans Tristan Maputol and Christian Pabito sizzled for 27 and 20 points each to carry the fight for the CCS Knights offensively.

Clouie Bacatan and Jayson Mangundato added 13 and 10 markers apiece.
