NORTHERN Mindanao Region Athletic Association (NMRAA) coach Luisito Maagad is confident that his girls are ready for the Palarong Pambansa in Antique but he refused to give a forecast on the performance of his team.

Maagad, the head coach of the Xavier University Girls High School Futsal team, said that he just wants his team to have fun in Antique and enjoy their tournament in victory or defeat.

“We have prepared for a long time. We have started practicing as a team right after the Regional meet last December. Hopefully the girls will be ready,” he said.

The Northern Mindanao girls are quite deceiving in appearance as most of them are petite but on the futsal court, they are very skillful and strong.

Leading them in the offense are former National Under-15 team member Munich Muring of Xavier University and the very skillful and tough Patricia Ching of St. Mary’s School.

On defense, they lean on Rodelyn Perez of Bukidnon National High School of Maramag, Andrea Cabactulan of St. Mary’s and goalkeeper Caroline Acelo also of St. Mary’s.

Off the bench they have goalkeeper and team captain Eunice Eduave of Xavier University, Megan Wong of Xavier University, LJ Lazo of Xavier University, Justine Gonzales of Alae National High School of Bukidnon, Louisse Peregrine Bongocan of Rosevale School, Melgrace Camarillo of PN Roa National High School, and Cristy Tago of Liceo University.

Giving support to coach Awing are his trainers Niño Lazo, Jerney Miaco and chaperon Angeliz Anoos.

This is the first time that girls Futsal is a regular sport in the Palaro. It has been a demonstration sport for many years.

The NMRAA girls were represented by Misamis Occidental last year in Bicol. They eliminated.

The team will leave for Antique on April 19 just in time for the opening ceremonies on April 23.
