THE next chapter in Philippine football will start Friday, April 21, when the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) launches the Philippine Football League (PFL).
Shangri-La Hotel in Makati will host the launching.
This is the second time that the PFF has attempted to launch a nationwide professional league.
In the 90’s the PFF attempted to start the nationwide PFL but failed miserably. Marlboro poured out millions in that league but from the start it was mis-managed and eventually folded up even without finishing one season.
Hopefully this time, the PFF will do it right as the new PFL is being run by some of the guys who also run the Football Alliance.
Football Alliance managed the very successful but Manila based United Football League.
So far eight teams from all over the country are officially entered in the competition.
They are all community based. They are JP Voltes-Marikina, Global Cebu, Ceres-Negros, Stallions Football Club (FC)-Laguna, Loyola FC Meralco Sparks, Ilocos FC, Kaya FC Makati and the lone rep from Mindanao, the Davao FC Aguilas.
Fingers crossed, let us hope this league will be successful this time.
