NOT just a fishing haven or a rich source of “tamban nipa,” Cagayan de Oro City’s coastal village of Bonbon is also into developing future sports heroes.
This, as Bonbon chair Jacky Lynne Biongcog-Merto announced the holding of the 2017 Barangay Bonbon Summer Sports Festival in various sports disciplines.
In fact, it already wrapped up its volleyball and table tennis games tourney from April 17 to 22 with the women’s team of Bonbon defeating Balulang village, 2-1 for the championship crown.
“Didto gidula sa Barangay 24 covered court ang championship sa women’s volleyball. Gi-swerti kami ang nidaug,” said local tosser Rochelle “Lizquen” Cañete.
On Sunday, April 23, the basketball tourney will unfold at its seaside plaza with the women’s open category. Other categories are the men’s division, SBP under-13, midget (18 to 22 yeras old), mini-midget (14 to 17 years old) and civic level (40 and above) starting on May 14.
Other events are in chess, dart, billiard, and sepak takraw. (Althea Rana, Liceo intern)
