SOUTHERN de Oro Philippines College (SPC) was declared outright winner in the North I District Meet secondary boys basketball tournament on Thursday, September 7, at Macabalan National High School covered courts here.
This, after the final match between the SPC junior Sharks and host Macabalan National High School was marred by a commotion with less than a minute left in the third quarter.
The Junior Sharks of coach Rey Dangcal were already up by 40 points when fans and supporters of Macabalan entered into the court to create trouble.
The committee officials, however, managed to control the situation and automatically declared the Junior Sharks as champions.
“Dili 'to maayo ang gipakita sa fans. Sports ra ni ug dili angay ika-ulit kay bisita ra 'mi ug wala mi nanghilabot,” Dangcal said.
Dangcal got worried before the match after his reliable shooting guard Bernard Parista injured his hand during the warm-up.
“Gianugon ko kay best defender nako siya ug knock-out shooter siya sa team,” said Dangcal.
On their way to the final, SPC eliminated Puntod National High School via a 50-point thrashing.
