WITH former San Miguel Beer forward Nelbert “Bitoy” Omolon skipping Gamba’s latest outing, Niku Benson Valles scored a game-high 27 points to lead the 97ers to their six-straight win in the 8th XUHS-ABA Basketball Tournament on Saturday, September 9, at XUHS covered courts.
The unstoppable Valles got a lot of help from Dexter Latosa, who chipped in 10 markers, as Gamba 97 drubbed Batch 2006, 53-37.
After a slow start that put them up by only three, 19-16 at the half, the 97ers struck hard in the third quarter, posting a 15-point lead, 38-23 that even swelled to 22.
Omolon did come after the game to the delight of his teammates.
“Actually, ang Batch 2005 ra ang among tunok kay na-scout na namo nga kusog ug dili makumyansahan,” Valles said.
In other results, Batch 2003 upsets Batch 2002, 50-45 as the much younger Batch 2004 toyed with Batch 1996 in a blow out win, 72-31.
A decade-old younger, Batch 2001 thrashed the Spartans 91, 78-54, even as the more experienced Batch 1994 defeated IAM 98, 64-53 in the nightcap.
It was 2003’s second triumph in 10 games, while handing 2002 of its second loss in eight matches.
