BATCH 1999 cagers stretched their winning streak to five after thrashing St. Ignatius de Loyola Cup leader Jammers 2005, 66-44 in the 8th XUHS-ABA Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the Xavier University-Main Campus covered courts, Cagayan de Oro City.
Season 6 MVP Louie “C-Webb” Roa and bull-strong 6-foot-3 center Marco Sabal led the 99ers with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The win put the 99ers to solid fourth with 7-8 win-loss record in the St. Peter Faber Cup division.
Alumni 1999 needs to make good in their last two games against Gamba 97 and closest pursuer 1996 of Elich Alfante to seal a spot in the top-four division playoffs.
If they sweep the remaining games, the 99ers can overtake XUHS 2000 for third place.
Batch 2000 has a 6-7 card with four games left before the playoffs.
Alumni 2001 remains on top in the Faber Cup with 6-3 slate, while Gamba 97 occupies the second spot at 7-7.
Jammers 05, on the other hand, still holds the lead in the Loyola Cup division at 10-3 despite yielding to the 99ers.
In other games, IAM 98 kissed their playoff bid goodbye after losing to Batch 2006, 53-66.
Batch 2007 meantime moves to joint second with XUHS 2002 after winning by forfeiture over Batch 2003.
Alumni 2002 and 2007 both have identical 8-4 card in the Loyola Cup division.
In the women’s division, XUHS 2003 cagebelles stunned Batch 2005, 32-22.
