HOST Cagayan de Oro City and Philippine Airlines finished unscathed in their respective brackets to face each other in the final of the 1st CdeO Asian Friendship Games 50-above at the Xavier University gym here.
This, after the host team and PAL of PBA Legend Allan “The Triggerman” Caidic won their last games in the 1st CdeO Asian Friendship Games 50-above on Saturday at the Xavier University Gymnasium.
CdeO defeated Nanjing China, 70-56 in bracket B, while PAL of PBA legend Allan ‘The Triggerman’ Caidic demolished Fujian, 81-59 in a do-or-die match in bracket A.
Richard “Otoy” Sajulga finished 16 points in CdeO’s last outing in the elimination round, while Gitagum Mayor Loloy Mugot gave 11 markers.
The host team secured a win against Nanjing to avoid a triple-tie situation contrary on what was reported earlier that CdeO assured a final seat despite a loss in their last gamne assignment.
Commissioner Loloy Estroga further explained that things would turn complicated for CdeO had it lose to Nanjing and Taipei winning against Macau.
“Pero, wala na gipaabot ana sa CdeO and the team went for a win,” said XU coach Rocky Calingin, who is also among the workforce in the tournament.
Caidic starred in PAL’s lopsided win as he fired 26 points along with five from the arc.
Both PAL and Fuijan were perfect in two outings before finally facing each other in the last round of their bracket.
Host CdeO and PAL were still playing in the final as of Sunday evening, December 10.
