Biantan: Rosevale School venture pays off

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

THE countless of championship trophies including the right to represent Region X to the coming Palarong Pambansa in Vigan in April, are signs that the Rosevale School’s investment into the beautiful game is indeed paying off.

The tiny school located inside Xavier Estates, Uptown of Cagayan de Oro City also just recently won the Boys U13 title in the prestigious Rosevale School Football festival.

Their elder brothers, the Boys U15 teams made it to the semis but settled only in the third place after losing on a cruel toss coin to determine the champions, second and third placers after darkness ruled out any further matches in the one day competition.

But the Palaro bound ‘Super’ team showed no mercy from start to finish as it did not suffer as single loss from the elimination round en-route to winning the championship trophy.

The Rosevale kids showed off their superb skills and team work from the start whipping Nikki Parents FC 6-0. The ‘Silent Assassin’ Vinson Manubag starred as he scored a hat trick while ‘The Bulldozer’ Aaron Magadan added two goals and ‘Super Sam’ Salingay scored one goal.

The next match was also a breeze for the the CdO boys as they out classed La Familia FC 5-0. ’Super Sam’, ‘The Bulldozer’, ‘Mr. Cool’ Mamat Cascara and ‘Braveheart’ Andy Lugod scored one goal each. ‘The Silent Assassin’ continued his scoring binge as he added two more goals to his collection assuring them a place to the quarterfinals.

They faced tough challenge in the QF as the visiting Crocs FC from Davao was more formidable and was a hard nut to crack. This time it was goalkeeper ’Mr. Clean’ Rawin Gementiza who starred for the Rosevale boys as he thwarted countless of attempts including a game saving block from point blank to keep his clean sheet. The end game however belonged ‘The Savior’ right winger Carlo Bongocan who banged in the winning goal with seconds more to go before the final whistle to secure them a place in the semis.

‘The Savior’ then resumed his saving ways in the semis as he once again scored the winning goal in the dying minutes to defeat GAFC Invictus of Ginggoog City 2-1, to secure the final spot against Holy Cross of Bukidnon.

GAFC took an early lead in the early minutes but ‘The Silent’ Assassin’ Vince Manubag broke his silence five minutes later scoring the equalizer to record his sixth goal of the tournament.

The Rosevale kids then dominated Holy Cross in their championship clash with ’Super Sam’ Salingay scoring two goals to take home the championship trophy.

The reliable defenders John Quinito, McDo Acoon, goalkeeper ‘Mr. Clean’ Rawin Gementiza and ‘The Bulldozer’ Aaron Magadan put up a solid defense in the end game to make sure they would keep another clean sheet and record another sweet title finish for coach Mario Sumampong.

Salingay also pocketed the MVP award, while Manubag the Best Striker award, Gementiza the Best Goalkeeper and Magadan the Best Defender medal.

But what is the secret of Rosevale School’s success? Early preparation and all out support from the school administration and the football parents.

The parents and the school have united to support the football program under coaches Dennis Bongocan, Mario Sumampong, and Rowen Tagaylo Clemeña.

With unity, success is always assured.
