Cash grant

CEBU City college scholars who perform well in school will soon get an incentive from the City Government.

In his proposed ordinance, Councilor Alvin Dizon said it is only proper for the City to extend incentives to scholars who graduate with honors.

The grant will also encourage other scholars to study harder.

Recognition

“Incentives must be provided to the Cebu City scholars in order to recognize and reward their academic achievement and to encourage others to excel in their studies,” the resolution reads.

The proposed ordinance seeks to give P20,000 for scholars who graduate suma cum laude; P15,000, magna cum laude; and P10,000, cum laude.

It will be handed out during the annual commemoration of Charter Day.

Under the proposed ordinance, the budget for the incentives will be allocated under the annual budget.

First batch

In March, five scholars graduated magna cum laude and 105 graduated cum laude. The first batch of scholars numbering 2,600 graduated this year.

The City Government started its scholarship program in 2010 under City Ordinance 2333, or the scholarship program of the city.

Beneficiaries are graduates of public high schools.

The proposed ordinance has been referred to the council’s committee on laws. RVCM
