Typhoon Santi has moved faster and was expected to make landfall last night instead of today due to a slight change in direction, Pagasa central office said.
As of 1 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) estimated Santi at 240 kilometers (kms) east of Infanta, Quezon with maximum sustained winds of 150 kms per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
It is moving west at 28 kph, compared to the previous speed of 22 kph yesterday morning.
It is expected to be 280 kms. west southwest of Metro Manila and 600 km west northwest of Punta Princesa tomorrow morning.
“We’re expecting the typhoon to be far from Manila and other parts of Luzon by Sunday,” Nathaniel Cruz of Pagasa said.
Even before it has made landfall, signal number 3 has already been raised over Northern Quezon, including Polillo Island, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.
In the areas possibly affected by the typhoon, Cruz said it would be risky to take trips today.
